Turkey Sloppy Joes

Turkey Sloppy Joes are a great dinner for anyone interested in managing fat and calorie intake, without sacrificing great taste. Prepare this dish for your kids - they will love it! Tailor the ingredients to fit the preferences of your household.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp. olive oil
  • 2 lbs. ground turkey
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 1/2 cup bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 small tin (6 oz.) tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 2 tsp. onion powder
  • 2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 2 tsp. dried basil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper, if desired
In a large skillet, brown turkey in oil at medium high heat for 6-8 minutes. Turn down heat to medium low and add all remaining ingredients. Blend well. Simmer for 20 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste. Adjust seasonings, if necessary.

Note: If mixture is too dry for your taste, add a tablespoon or two of water for added moisture.

Serve over hamburger buns or your favorite bread. You can also serve Turkey Sloppy Joes over noodles or rice.
