Poached Pears

<< Poached Pears are an elegant dessert recipe that are quite simple to prepare. This delicious dessert combines sleek form, color and fresh taste, all in one piece of cooked fruit. Serve cooked pears in an attractive glass or dessert dish with sauce drizzled on top.

Ingredients:

  • 6 pears, peeled, leave stems in
  • *1 ½ cups red wine
  • 1 ½ cups fruit juice (your favorite type)
  • 4 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp. grated lemon zest
Add all ingredients, except for pears, in a large pot with a surface large enough to hold six pears, standing upright. Bring ingredients to a low boil and reduce heat once sugar is dissolved.

Place pears in pot, upright. Simmer at low-medium heat, partially covered, until pears soften and sauce reduces to a syrup texture. This should take approximately 15 minutes. Test pears for doneness by poking bottom - if toothpick goes through and flesh has softened, pears are ready. Do not let them get mushy. Large pears may take longer.

Place each poached pear in a dish and top with syrup.

*Note: You can use more fruit juice instead of wine.
