Cakes and Pies - Baked Dessert Recipes

Cakes and Pies are more than sweet desserts - many of these recipes have been handed down over generations and play a special role at traditional Shabbat and holiday meals. The sentimental and cultural significance of many traditional baking recipes and wonderful family memories associated with them cannot be overstated.

Quite a few of the cakes below are made with oil - pareve recipes are in italics. These cake and pie recipes are relatively easy to prepare and will make any ordinary meal seem special. Please send me your own cake recipes, pie recipes and other meal ideas - I'd love to share them.
